November 3, 2026. BYD sold 490,168 vehicles in October, 11 % more than a year earlier, and for the first time sold more than 300,000 battery electric cars in a single month, according to the report the company filed with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on November 1. Of the total, 170,194 vehicles were sold outside China, more than double October 2025.

October by vehicle type

From the stock exchange filing:

  • Battery EVs: 305,743 units, up 37.4 % from 222,559.
  • Plug-in hybrids: 177,382 units, down 17.2 %.
  • Commercial vehicles: 7,043 units, including 600 buses.
  • Overseas sales: 170,194 units.

According to EVXL and AutoNext, battery EVs are now 63.3 % of BYD's passenger car sales, up from about 51 % a year earlier, and October was the third straight record month for the segment. January–October sales total 3,621,744 vehicles, 2.16 % fewer than a year earlier.

Overseas is the growth engine

BYD sold 1,513,154 vehicles abroad in the first ten months, 93.8 % more than a year earlier, according to AutoNext and Automotive World. Domestic October sales fell 10.6 % to 319,974 units.

Export momentum has eased: October overseas sales were 5.8 % below September and under August's record of 189,466. Automotive World's Stewart Burnett notes that in September BYD named shipping capacity, not demand, as its main constraint, that its new plants in Thailand, Brazil and Turkey are still ramping up, and that it raised its overseas target to 1.9 to 2 million units.

The aftermarket opportunity

Our take: every car sold later needs dealers, workshops, spare parts and accessories. As Chinese EVs spread across new markets, so does demand for the products that keep them running.

  • Source accessories and workshop tools from Chinese factories with our product sourcing service, checking the tariff classification of each item first.
  • Approve samples before ordering, especially for parts that must fit a specific model.
  • Confirm what ships matches what was agreed with a pre-shipment product inspection.
