November 5, 2026. The 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) opened in Shanghai today with 4,142 foreign companies from 162 countries, regions and international organizations and more than 480 products making their world, Asian or Chinese debut, Xinhua reported. It runs until Tuesday, November 10.

At the opening ceremony, Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang said "Mutual benefit is at the heart of trade and economic cooperation," according to Sixth Tone.

Record figures

Xinhua and The Paper report:

  • For the first time, more than 440,000 square meters of exhibition space, over 370,000 of it for companies.
  • More than 300 Fortune Global 500 and industry-leading companies, also a record.
  • More than 480 debuts, the most of any edition; over 200 are world premieres or first launches, per Xinhua.
  • An innovation incubation zone with 633 projects from nearly 40 countries and regions, almost 20 % more than last year.

CGTN says the previous eight editions showcased more than 3,400 new products, technologies or services, with cumulative intended deals above USD 580 billion. China's goods imports reached 16.7 trillion yuan, about USD 2.5 trillion, in January–September 2026, up 22.3 %, the fastest since 2021, according to CGTN and Sixth Tone.

Latin American products on show

Xinhua reports that Chinese importer Xinrongmao will debut a large-caliber Peruvian fruit, helped by the upgraded China–Peru free trade agreement and the 23-day direct shipping route from the port of Chancay to Shanghai. Its Chilean subsidiary is debuting a coconut that can be drunk with a straw without tools. At the parallel Hongqiao International Economic Forum, the first report on developing capacity to export to China was released, CGTN said.

Our take

The Peru and Chile cases show that products from the Americas reach China's main showcase when routes and agreements are clear.
